I've been eagerly awaiting new music from Harry Styles of former One Direction fame, curious to hear his solo offerings. However, reading a vast swathe of reviews of his new (fab) single Sign of the Times left me a little weary with the snooty tendency to dismiss One Direction's (assumed) teen, female fan base. In writing for The Mary Sue I asked why do conversations about pop music still have to bash the fangirl?

Ed: After I wrote this piece an interview with Harry in The Rolling Stone was released in which he defends the teen fan and the internet seemed to like it. It's an important issue and I for one am very glad to see it getting lots of coverage now.
